Exploring Odaiba, Tokyo

The article and photos by Fumiko Koike

I would like to present some pictures I took in Odaiba in  my previous visit there in December 2019, with my comments and recommendations.

All information is based on the time of my visit, so if you go to some of the following places, please check the latest information on your own.

Contents:

1.  MORI BUILDING DIGITAL ART MUSEUM EPSON TEAMLAB★BORDERLESS

2.  The Statue of Liberty and its vicinity

FYI:   Who is Kenzo Tange?

4.  Life-size Gundam in front of Diver City Tokyo

Inside the "DIGITAL ART MUSEUM EPSON teamLab★Borderless" in Odaiba, you may feel as if you are walking in someone’s dream or in a completely different world from the reality.

I recommend you get there before or when it opens as a waiting line is formed right after the opening time of 10:00am even on weekdays.

The entrance is at the foot of the giant ferries wheel, passing through TOYOTA MEGAWEB.

The nearest Yurikamome station is Aomi station.

2.The Statue of Liberty and its vicinity

In Odaiba, you can see the "Statue of Liberty", made as a symbol of the friendship between France and Japan. It has been here since the year 2000.

It is about one seventh of the American one in size.

Fuji TV Headquarters Building [the photo]

Fuji TV Headquarters Building was designed by a renowned Japanese architect Kenzo Tange and completed in 1996.

Next time I go there, I would like to go up to the Spherical Observation Room "Hachitama" on the twenty-fifth floor.

FYI:  Who is Kenzo Tange?

・the first Japanese Pritzker Architecture Prize winner (1987)

・designed Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park (1955)

・designed Yoyogi National Stadium(1964)

・was in charge of the master plan for the Osaka Expo (1970).

・designed Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (1991)

・designed Fuji TV Headquarters Building (1996)

He designed / created over 300 buildings / works inside outside Japan and mentioned above are his representative ones.

AQUA CITY ODAIBA and its vicinity [the photo]

AQUA CITY ODAIBA is a fun place to shop, or even if you do not need to buy anything, you can just enjoy window shopping.

As you can see in the photo above, the Statue of Liberty, Fuji TV Headquarters Building and AQUA CITY ODAIBA are close to two Yurikamome stations; Odaiba Kaihin Koen station and Daiba station.

Depending on where you want to go first and last, you can decide which station to use.

TOKYO RAMEN KOKUGIKAN MAI [the photo]

TOKYO RAMEN KOKUGIKAN MAI is located on the fifth floor of AQUA CITY ODAIBA.

There are six ramen restaurants to choose from there.

I went there to have lunch, but there were many waiting lines of people...so I decided not to wait in line as I did not have much time left. When I go there next time, I will go earlier or later than the possible busiest time of between 12:00 and 13:30. Better luck next time!

3.Life-size Gundam in front of Diver City Tokyo

A real-size Gundam in front of Diver City Tokyo [the photo]

I went to see this real-life Gundam in front of DiverCity Tokyo, in Odaiba.

I had wanted to see this with my own eyes from before and I finally did.

It was so grand that I was really moved, even though I am not particularly a big fan of it.

Hope you enjoyed reading my article and seeing my photos!

Again, please check the latest information before actually visiting above places.
